Ananda = Bliss: What Your Body’s “Bliss Molecule” Can Teach Us About Cannabis

If you've spent any time reading about the endocannabinoid system, you've probably come across a curious word: anandamide.

It sounds exotic, but its meaning is beautifully simple. The name comes from the Sanskrit word ananda, which means bliss, joy or deep contentment. Scientists chose that name because anandamide is one of the body's own naturally occurring cannabinoids, or endocannabinoids, that helps regulate many of the systems involved in feeling well.
